Administrator, Teacher, Parent, Student resources (UT AUSTIN)

Abstract:  This site sponsored by University of Texas, Austin, includes professional information and resources for administrators, teachers, parents, and students in Texas. Assessment information, legislative & policy issues, educational organizations, curriculum resources, library links, information on special populations, professional development opportunities, grant opportunities, parent organizations, and college resources are some of the many offerings at this web site. There are also links to community service opportunities. This highly resourceful thorough web site is one of my favorites. It was last updated on April 21, 2005.

Bridges4kids - Texas Resources

Abstract: This is an extremely important web site for anyone needing to find specific services for young children in the state of Texas. It is updated regularly, and each link takes you to a different organization or web page to serve various needs of young children such as literacy development, agencies serving young children, and early childhood programs.  Parents, teachers, and anyone interested in child resources in Texas will benefit from this scholarly site. Links are to governmental, state, and non-profit organizations.

Texas Education Agency

Abstract: This is a state/government-operated site designed for the Texas Education System. Texas education employees, and families of students in the texas education system, and professionals in education will find helpful and relevant information.  It is a combination of overview and in-depth analysis of studies and state standards. Education law, grant opportunities, standards, teaching criteria, and an abundance of links to additional reports and resources makes this a scholarly and recommended site. The purpose, reviewed, is to provide information about current events and concerns. The web site is updated, although there is no date listed. Information such as the Texas education system tax information, testing, and school studies indicate it is current; it is also a well-known premiere organization in the field of education.

CampFire USA

Abstract: This is the site for the First Texas Council of CampFire USA. CampFire strives to build caring, confident youth and future leaders. They provide club programs, a child care resource and referral service for parents, quality child care training for centers and family providers, an NAEYC accredited child care center for infants through preschoolers, after-school programs for kindergarten through sixth grade, programs for teenagers, community family clubs, and much more. This regularly updated site includes information for these programs along with information about their camp and outdoor programs. I recommend this site to anyone interested in family or child resources. There are also volunteer opportunities.

Abstract: Hosted by the University of Texas in Houston, the state center for early childhood development, this site provides reports for teachers about Texas children and education, especially related to current recommended practice in early childhood education. Current Senate bills and projects are presented, and there are teacher resource links and resources. This scholarly site is highly recommended for every teacher working with children ages 0 - 8.

Abstract:  This web site is hosted by The Texas Early Care and Education Career Development System (TECECDS). The organization has been created to link early childhood practioners and administrators and early childhood providers. Professional development is encouraged and provided in the Core Knowledge and Skills for center-based practitioners, home based care practitioners, and center-based administrators. The goal of the system is to unify career paths and choices within early childhood education, and provide statewide recognition and transferable credit for training and coursework. The site includes a process for trainer registration, training opportunities, and a clear definition of the goals of TECECDS, and will be helpful for early childhood providers, trainers, and consultants.

Abstract: Offered by the Attorney General Greg Abbott's office, this site provides  State, Federal, and National Programs for single parents, fathers, poor families, and other families in need of family services in the state of Texas. Information on child support is provided, and information on this site is provided in Spanish. Some of the information is updated regularly, and other information may not be as updated.  For example, the information on the main page about programs was last updated in 1999, but the conference link includes information for conferences in July of 2005 so it is current. This is a very helpful site for families and professionals of various needs.

Child Advocacy in Texas

Abstract: This is the site for The Children's Advocacy Center of Texas, whose mission is to restore the lives of abused children by supporting local Children’s Advocacy Centers in partnership with communities and agencies investigating and prosecuting child abuse. The site offers information for professionals about training opportunities in the state, resources, funding, and reports and statistics. The information was last updated in May, 2005. There is no scholarly, research based information presented on this site, but I decided to include it on my recommendation list because of the many requests I receive from adults who want to become advocates for children but do not know how.  This link is a good place to start for those interested in advocacy.
